Ahead of the high-stakes Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, political outfits revealed their seat-sharing pacts as candidates get ready to file their nomination papers on December 30.

The ruling Mahayuti allies BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena will contest 137 and 90 seats respectively, as shared by Mumbai BJP president, Amit Satam, on Monday, who added that both parties will allocate some seats from their respective quotas to alliance partners.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar-led faction is contesting the BMC polls separately, having announced 64 candidates so far.

Elections to 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra will be held on January 15, 2026, and votes will be counted the next day.

In the BMC polls held in 2017, the BJP made huge leaps by winning 82 of the 227 seats, tallying behind its estranged Shiv Sena ally by just two seats. The Congress, meanwhile, had won only 31 seats, while the NCP (undivided) and Raj Thackeray’s MNS were farther behind in the race with just 9 and 7 seats respectively.

Additionally, AIMIM had shown up in its debut with 3 seats won, while Samajwadi Party got six, Akhil Bhartiya Sena one, and other independents won four.
