Heavy police deployment outside the CSMT in Mumbai.

The Mumbai Police on Friday were placed on high alert following a threat call received on a traffic police helpline. The caller claimed that 34 "human bombs" carrying "400 kg of RDX" had been placed in 34 vehicles and that a blast would "shake the entire city."

According to the Mumbai Police, the threat was issued by an organisation called Lashkar-e-Jihadi on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi. In response, security has been enhanced across the state. The police stated that the threat message claimed the 34 cars with human bombs would be used to detonate 400 kg of RDX, with the goal of killing "one crore people".

This incident follows a series of recent bomb threats in the region. On Monday, a 43-year-old man, identified as Rupesh Madhukar Ranpise, was arrested for allegedly making a hoax bomb threat call about blowing up a railway station in Maharashtra's Thane district. According to media reports, the Government Railway Police (GRP) said the accused called the police helpline around 4 p.m. on Sunday and claimed to have planted a bomb at Kalwa railway station.

In August, the ISKCON Temple in the Girgaon area of south Mumbai also received a bomb threat via email, which was later determined to be a hoax. An official stated that on the evening of August 22, the temple administration received an email warning of a bomb blast.

After temple officials informed the police, a search was conducted on the premises by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) that night. The police did not find anything suspicious and classified the threat as a hoax. The official noted that the temple had received a similar threat email in September as well.

Earlier, on July 25, the Mumbai Police received a call threatening a bomb blast at Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). A thorough check of the airport facility was conducted, but nothing suspicious was found.
