Former Sri Lanka cricket legend Muttiah Muralitharan is set to make a significant investment in Karnataka.
The spin maestro plans to invest Rs 1,400 crore in a phased manner to establish a beverages and confectionery unit in Badanaguppe, Chamarajanagara district, according to Karnataka's Large and Medium Industries Minister, MB Patil.
The announcement followed a meeting between Patil and Muralitharan to discuss the project, which will be carried out under the brand "Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries."
"The project, initially planned with an investment of Rs 230 crore, has now been revised to a total of Rs 1,000 crore and will be further increased to Rs 1,400 crore over the next few years," Patil said in a statement issued by his office.
To facilitate the project, 46 acres of land have already been allocated.
The manufacturing operations are expected to commence in January 2025. The Minister assured that minor issues related to the allocated land will be resolved promptly to avoid any delays.
In addition to the unit in Chamarajanagara, Muralitharan is also planning to establish another unit in Dharwad in the near future, further expanding his investment footprint in Karnataka.
