Nagaland gears up for Urban Local Body (ULB) elections slated for June 26, marking a significant return after a halt of two decades.

The elections, covering Wokha town from Ward No.1 to Ward No.15, are set a fresh tone to the local governance.

Nomination procedures would commence from June 7, with candidates or their representatives directed to submit nomination papers to the Returning Officer, Wokha Town Council, ADC office, between 11 AM and 3 PM on working days until June 11.

Scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for June 14, starting at 11 AM, in the ADC's office chamber.

Candidates have until June 18, 3 PM, to withdraw their candidature, with provisions made for the delivery of withdrawal notices to the specified office.

In case of a contested election, polling is set for June 26, with voting scheduled between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM.

Notably, Wokha town's Ward No- 1, 4, 7, & 10 have been reserved for women, indicating a step towards gender inclusivity in local governance.

Simultaneously, a Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls for the existing 39 Municipal/Town Councils is underway.

In accordance with Section 143(1) of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, the Electoral Roll, finalized on November 24, 2022, under the now-repealed Nagaland Municipal Act 2001, serves as the basis for draft publication.

Respective Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) are tasked with disseminating information regarding the revision exercise as per rules outlined in the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules 2023.

Rules 4 to 10 of the aforementioned ruleset govern the revision process, ensuring transparency and adherence to electoral norms.
