Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the national capital on Tuesday and submitted a detailed proposal requesting that the Union government extend financial backing to the state under the Purvodaya Scheme.

The Chief Minister pointed out that Purvodaya Scheme, a Centre scheme for the comprehensive growth of eastern states, has already shortlisted Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh as its major beneficiaries. The main aim of the scheme is to unlock economic growth in the eastern regions by spurring agricultural, industrial, and infrastructure development and thus filling regional gaps and ensuring inclusive development.

Reiterating the importance of harmonious growth, Naidu described how the state government had made elaborate plans to use the scheme money judiciously for the development of the region. Elaborating on his vision, he told Minister Sitharaman that the state planned to encourage horticulture in Rayalaseema, develop coffee plantations, cashew, and coconut cultivation in North Andhra, and reinforce aquaculture production in Coastal Andhra.

He stated that the focused investment in such initiatives under Purvodaya would not only enhance productivity but also create the vital employment as well as boost rural incomes.

CM Naidu specifically underlined that the scheme’s implementation would play a transformative role in uplifting backward regions such as North Andhra and Rayalaseema, which have historically lagged in industrial and economic development.

Apart from his meeting with the Finance Minister, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister is also scheduled to participate in the CII’s curtain-raiser partnership summit, where he is expected to outline investment opportunities in the state and invite investors to participate in the main CII grand summit slated for November in Visakhapatnam.
