As a part of sustained efforts to push ongoing campaign against drug menace, Police in Srinagar have deployed the narcotic dog squad across multiple city locations to crack down on drug trafficking across the UT of J&K.
During this special drive under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, trained sniffer dogs have been positioned at key checkpoints to detect concealed narcotics, identify and arrest drug peddlers, an official said.The official said deploying highly trained canines enhances on-the-spot detection capabilities and strengthens ground-level enforcement.
He said the proactive initiative is a vital component of the Srinagar police’s strategy to dismantle narcotics supply networks and establish a strong deterrent against drug-related activities.The police also continued awareness campaigns to educate the public and reinforce the collective resolve towards a drug-free society.
The district administration on Friday demolished residential properties of two alleged drug peddlers in the outskirts of Jammu city as part of its crackdown on assets linked to persons involved in drug trafficking and trade.Bulldozers — accompanied by heavy police deployment — rolled into Indra Nagar Colony of Miran Sahib Sub-Divisional Magistrate, R S Pura, Anuradha Thakur and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Gurmeet Singh were present at the scene during the demolition exercise.In a similar action, on Thursday, three residential properties of alleged drug peddlers were demolished in Rajiv Nagar area of Jammu city.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday highlighted major achievements under the ongoing anti-drug campaign in the Jammu division between April 11 and April 22.He stated that a large number of cases have been registered during this period, leading to the arrest of several drug smugglers. Narcotics worth nearly Rs. 3 crore have been seized, while movable and immovable properties valued at around Rs. 1 crore have been attached.
The Lieutenant Governor further informed that properties belonging to drug smugglers have been demolished as part of the crackdown. Additionally, 187 driving licences and four vehicle registrations have been cancelled. Financial investigations have also been initiated against 48 drug peddlers to track illegal earnings.
He added that authorities have conducted inspections of drug and chemist shops, resulting in the cancellation of 15 licenses in Jammu Province. Efforts are also being made on the rehabilitation front, with drug users being referred to de-addiction and rehabilitation centres, along with counselling support.
