The School Education Department has instructed all schools in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to commence their morning assemblies with the national anthem.
Through a circular, the Principal Secretary to the Government, School Education Department, has directed all schools to ensure uniformity in their morning assemblies across the Union Territory.
The circular, issued on Wednesday, read, "Morning assembly should begin with the National Anthem as per standard protocol."
The morning assemblies have been found to be a crucial tradition for fostering a feeling of togetherness and orderliness among the students, stated the department.
"They (assemblies) serve as platforms to nurture the values of moral integrity, shared community and mental tranquillity. However, it has been observed that such a significant ritual/ tradition is not being carried out uniformly across various schools of JK UT," the circular, which suggested 16 steps for the schools to follow.
The department recommended incorporating guest speakers, raising awareness about the environment, and addressing the issue of drug abuse as essential components for schools to include in their morning assemblies.
