Condemnations have begun to pour in after at least seven people were killed and five others injured in a terror attack on Sunday in the Gagangir area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

UT Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack, writing on his X handle, “Unfortunate news of a dastardly and cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in the Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. Seven have been killed, and five more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people and send my condolences to their loved ones.”

Similarly, in a post on X, Lieutenant Governor Sinha stated, “I strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack on civilians in Gagangeer. I assure the people that those behind this despicable act will not go unpunished. We have given full freedom to the J&K Police, Army, and Security Forces.”

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his outrage on X, stating, “The dastardly terror attack on civilians in Gagangir, J&K, is a despicable act of cowardice. Those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces. At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the attack, saying, “I unequivocally condemn this senseless act of violence against two labourers in Ganderbal. My deepest condolences to their families.”

The leaders expressed their sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference President Sajad Gani Lone denounced the attack, stating, “I strongly condemn the dastardly act of terror wherein two persons have lost their lives in #Sonamarg. This is an insane act of madness. My thoughts are with the families of these victims. May the perpetrators be brought to justice.”

Those killed in the attack were all civilians working on the construction project of the Z-Morh Tunnel, which is currently being built to provide all-weather connectivity to Ladakh with Srinagar, as the Srinagar-Leh Highway remains closed during the winter season due to heavy snowfall.
