The Indian Army announced on Friday that two terrorists, killed during an infiltration attempt across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Kashmir on Thursday, were identified as 'foreign militants'.
Sources revealed that an Austrian Steyr AUG assault rifle, along with other ammunition, was recovered from the slain militants.
The Steyr AUG is known for its modularity, accuracy, reliability, and ergonomic design, making it a formidable weapon in various combat situations, from urban warfare to open-field engagements.
This incident further indicates that deadly NATO-standard weapons are entering the conflict zone in J&K.
A Srinagar-based defence spokesperson confirmed, "Two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control were eliminated." The following day, alert troops observed two terrorists moving through dense foliage on the Indian side of the LoC.
"This was the third successful anti-infiltration operation on the Line of Control in recent weeks and underscores the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the sanctity of the Line of Control and its robust counter-infiltration posture to ensure peace in the Kashmir Valley," the spokesperson added.
"The infiltrating terrorists were challenged, and they opened fire, leading to an intense firefight. Two hardcore foreign terrorists were killed, and weapons, war-like stores, and a Pakistani identity card were recovered," the spokesperson concluded.
