The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a new tunnel connecting Navbahar to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla. This project aims to reduce traffic congestion and make travel in the city faster and more convenient.
The tunnel, which is expected to improve urban transport, will cost an estimated ₹295 crore. According to a government spokesperson, this initiative reflects modern and forward-thinking urban planning.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has already spent ₹1,238 crore by September 2024 from the total budget of ₹2,806 crore for the financial year. Over the past two years, significant progress has been made in infrastructure development across Himachal Pradesh.
During this period, 1,376 km of new roads and 1,192 km of drainage systems have been built. Additionally, 1,741 km of roads have been upgraded with high-quality surfacing.
The government has also extended road access to 61 remote villages and constructed 116 bridges in difficult terrains, improving connectivity across the state.
