Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who was recently suspended from the Congress over her “Rs 500 crore for the chief minister’s chair” comment, has asked Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to provide her security cover.
She also questioned the chief minister’s silence on the issues she raised with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. She accused the state government of supporting the liquor and mining mafia.
Navjot Kaur is the wife of former Punjab Congress president and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu. After her “Rs 500 crore for the chief minister’s chair” comment triggered a political controversy, the Punjab Congress suspended her from its primary membership.
In a post on X on Friday night, she wrote “CM Bhagwant Mann ji, I think I need some security now, or else you will be responsible. And kindly answer why there is no response from your side on my issues raised before the Honourable Governor of Punjab? Why are you facilitating the liquor and mining mafia?"
She shared a copy of the memorandum she had submitted to the Governor, in which she alleged a “land scam” being run under the Bhagwant Mann government.
In the memorandum, Kaur claimed that influential people had illegally grabbed land in protected forest areas around the Shivalik hills. She alleged that the chief minister was trying to regularise these land holdings.
During her meeting with the Governor, Kaur also claimed that law and order in Punjab was deteriorating.
She also hit out at former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, who had said in an interview that Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife were both “unstable”.
Amarinder Singh had accused Navjot Kaur of lying and said the Congress should remove her from the party. He also remarked that Navjot Singh Sidhu should focus on cricket commentary, adding that politics was not in his nature.
Responding in a post on X, Kaur said Amarinder Singh had many questions to answer. She referred to files that she claimed Sidhu had refused to close, including the City Centre case and the registration of land held by land sharks around the prohibited Shivalik range.
"Captain Amarinder Singh , I just wanted to add ; why didn't you clear Navjot Sidhu's files which were so important for Punjab's growth? Mining Policy, Liquor policy, Travel and Medical tourism, Amritsar Gondola project, Garbage Disposal Project, Trans piracy in Local Bodies by placing tenders on National sites, Film city projects, Water sports projects, Sports park in Ranjit Avenue, Culinary universities for Punjab?" she posed.
Amarinder Singh resigned as chief minister in September 2021 after infighting within the Congress. After Charanjit Singh Channi became chief minister, Singh quit the party and later merged his new outfit with the BJP in 2022.
