Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday that the development seen in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is development facilitated by China, with no significant contribution played by the Pakistan government in its progress.
Omar remarked following a heated verbal exchange between members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Conference (NC) over the condition of border areas in the region.
"We have to accept that while there is limited development in our frontier areas, on the other side, there have been deliberate attempts to showcase progress. However, this so-called development was facilitated by China, not Pakistan," he said.
He said that India has not sought assistance from any foreign country for infrastructure development in border regions.
Criticising the portrayal of growth in PoK, he said, "They (PoK) made people wear coats to create the facade of development. However, in reality, the pockets of those coats are empty".

Earlier, the members of the ruling and opposition parties engaged in heated quarrels over the recent development in the border areas of PoK, as the ruling legislators brought Article 370 into debate.
While addressing reporters shortly after the verbal spat, Leader of Opposition and senior BJP member Sunil Sharma, on Tuesday, said that discussing Article 370 is “foolishness.”
"Discussing Article 370 is foolishness as the Supreme Court has legitimised its abrogation. No assembly in the country has the power to overturn the decision of the Parliament".
Criticising Peoples Conference chairman and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone for staging a walkout over the issue of Article 370, Sharma said, “His (Lone’s) love for Pakistan has resurfaced as his sasural (in-laws) are there. He (Lone) is frustrated after barely winning the election and is alone in the Assembly.”
