Anil Patil, the Chief Whip of the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) Ajit Pawar faction, has claimed that five to six legislators from the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) may align with the ruling Mahayuti alliance within the next four months, citing growing 'unrest' among opposition ranks.
Speaking to ABP Majha on Sunday, Patil asserted, “There is tremendous unrest among some NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), Congress, and Shiv Sena (UBT) MLAs who have been re-elected. Those having good relations with us have expressed concerns over MVA’s massive defeat.”
The MVA, an alliance of the Congress, Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP), and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), suffered a significant setback in the Maharashtra Assembly polls, securing only 46 seats out of 288.
In stark contrast, the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti, which includes Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction, emerged victorious with 230 seats.
Highlighting the allure of being in power, Patil remarked, “If one wants development works in his constituency, it is good to be in power. The MVA MLAs feel their future is uncertain. It shouldn’t be a surprise if five to six MLAs cross over to the Mahayuti in the next four months.”
In the recently declared poll results, the BJP emerged as the leading party, winning 132 constituencies. Its allies Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and Ajit Pawar’s NCP secured 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
On the other hand, the Shiv Sena (UBT) managed 20 seats, while the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP won 16 and 10 seats, respectively.
