A 17-year-old NEET aspirant from Bihar was found dead in her Patna hostel room, prompting a police probe and forensic investigation.

A 17-year-old NEET aspirant from Bihar’s Samastipur district was found dead in her hostel room in Patna on Tuesday morning, triggering a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The student had been residing in a private hostel located in Secretariat Colony under the jurisdiction of the Patrakar Nagar police station while preparing for the national-level medical entrance examination. According to police, she had been living in Patna since 2024 and had returned to the hostel around 10 days ago after spending some time in her native village.

The incident came to light when fellow hostel residents discovered her body in her room and immediately alerted the hostel administration, which in turn informed the police.

A team from the Patrakar Nagar police station reached the spot promptly, secured the premises, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also visited the hostel to collect evidence.

During preliminary inquiries, investigators learned that the student had been emotionally distressed over the past few days. Friends and fellow residents told police that she had appeared withdrawn and upset recently.

According to statements recorded by police, the student had a phone conversation with a young man on Monday night, after which she was seen crying.

“She looked extremely disturbed. We tried to console her, but she continued crying,” one of her friends reportedly said.

Hostel warden Abha Singh stated that the student had dinner as usual on Monday night before returning to her room.

“Nothing in her behaviour suggested that she might take such an extreme step. She was generally quiet and reserved,” Singh said.

Friends further revealed that the student had shared certain personal concerns with them. They had advised her to seek support and avoid taking any drastic action. Police sources indicated that during the phone conversation, the young man had allegedly suggested that she return home and stay with her parents. The student reportedly responded that even her parents were not speaking to her.

Some relatives of the deceased have informally expressed suspicion that a young man may have been troubling her for some time. However, police officials stated that no formal complaint has been filed so far, and no conclusions can be drawn at this stage.

Investigators have seized the student’s mobile phone and are examining call records and other digital evidence to establish the sequence of events leading up to the incident.

ASP (Patna Sadar) Abhinav Kumar confirmed that police were alerted after hostel residents discovered the body.

“Police reached the spot and secured the hostel premises. An FSL team examined the scene. The family has been informed, and the case is being investigated from all angles,” he said.

Patrakar Nagar SHO Sonu Kumar added that no suicide note has been recovered so far.

“Her mobile phone has been seized for analysis. The exact cause and circumstances will become clearer after the forensic examination and post-mortem report,” he said.

The deceased’s mother is a teacher, while her father is a farmer. Family members have reached Patna following the incident.
