A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation, engaged in investigating the NEET paper leak case, recovered a sack full of mobile phones from a pond in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand in collaboration with local police.
Sources said that the CBI recovered seven mobile phones from the sack thrown in the pond in the Sudamdih area, approximately 20 km away from Dhanbad town. The recovery came after questioning a youth named Pawan Kumar, who was earlier detained from the Combined Building area under the Dhanbad Sadar police station.
Upon interrogation, Pawan Kumar led the CBI team to the pond, where local swimmers retrieved a sac containing the mobile phones and some documents.
Officials from the CBI, who were part of the operation, did not disclose further details about the mobile phones or the circumstances surrounding Pawan Kumar's detention.
The CBI has so far taken into custody more than five individuals from various locations in Dhanbad as part of the investigation.
Sources said that Pawan's mother reached the CBI office in Saraidhela in search of her son, where the officials told Pawan's mother that the Dhanbad CBI team has not arrested him. He has been taken into custody by the CBI of another state and taken to Patna.
CBI sources claim that so far 37 people have been arrested in the NEET exam leak case. The CBI is searching for one Amit Singh of Karmik Nagar in Saraidhela, Dhanbad, but he has been absconding for a month.
