Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday said repeated leaks in the NEET examination were putting the future of lakhs of students at risk. He demanded a detailed probe into the issue.

Speaking to the media in Shimla, Sukhu said repeated incidents of paper leaks in national-level examinations were a matter of serious concern.

“Repeated leaks of the NEET examination paper are playing with the future of lakhs of students. The entire matter should be investigated thoroughly,” the Chief Minister said.

Attacking the BJP, Sukhu alleged that several paper leak cases had come to light during BJP rule. Referring to Himachal Pradesh, he said leaks had taken place during the tenure of former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur in the Hamirpur Staff Selection Commission recruitment exams as well as the police recruitment examination.

"During the previous BJP government, paper leaks occurred in the Hamirpur Staff Selection Commission examinations and the police recruitment test. The present government had to dissolve the Hamirpur Staff Selection Commission because of these irregularities," he said.

Sukhu also said the state government had arranged free travel in Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses for students appearing in the NEET examination. He said the move was aimed at ensuring that students did not face any difficulty in reaching their examination centres.

Raising the issue of Himachal Pradesh’s share in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Sukhu said the state was entitled to a 7.19 per cent share, as recognised by the Supreme Court, and that the government was working to secure its rights.

"The Supreme Court has acknowledged Himachal Pradesh's 7.19 per cent share. Our government is making continuous efforts to secure this right," he said.
He said talks were underway with the governments of Punjab and Rajasthan and discussions with the Haryana government would also be held soon.

Sukhu said the Haryana government should support Himachal Pradesh’s legitimate claim by filing an affidavit in court so that the state gets its due share.

Regarding the upcoming monsoon season, Sukhu said the government was fully prepared to deal with any weather-related emergency and had directed officials to stay alert. He said the government’s priority was to minimise loss of life and property and ensure quick relief and rehabilitation in case of any disaster.
