Hailing the initiative, J&K LG Majoj Sinha said that over the past five years, the National Education Policy (NEP) has brought a paradigm shift in the education system of Jammu & Kashmir, raising it to new heights and paving the way for a future-ready learning environment.
The policy, launched in 2020, emphasizes teaching students up to class 5 in their mother tongue, fostering a strong foundation in language and cognitive development. Additionally, NEP integrates skill-based education from an early age, equipping students with practical knowledge and competencies alongside traditional academics.
LG Sinha was speaking at the National Education Policy (NEP) Conclave being organized by the Higher Education Department at Amar Singh College, Srinagar, today. The conclave aims to deliberate on the implementation and progress of the National Education Policy 2020 in Jammu and Kashmir, with participation from educationists, academicians, college principals, and policymakers. The event focused on transforming higher education in line with the NEP’s objectives of holistic, multidisciplinary learning and innovation-driven growth.
The presence of the Lieutenant Governor is expected to underscore the government’s commitment to reforming the education sector and fostering a dynamic academic ecosystem in the Union Territory. Reflecting on the progress made under NEP, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir said, “When NEP was launched in 2020, I had just assumed office. Today, there is a huge difference in the education system, and the policy has taken learning to the next level.”
The LG extended his gratitude to Dr. Dinashu and his team for their dedication in implementing this transformative initiative. He further emphasized the need to evaluate the policy’s progress, explore areas of improvement, and ensure that NEP becomes a benchmark education policy of the 21st century.
Experts note that NEP’s focus on mother tongue education and skill development not only strengthens foundational learning but also promotes critical thinking, creativity, and employability. As Jammu & Kashmir continues to implement these reforms, the region is set to emerge as a model for education transformation in India.
The next steps, according to education officials, involve continuous monitoring of outcomes, teacher training programs, and expanding infrastructure to ensure that NEP’s benefits reach every student in the Union Territory.
