Shimla district police have apprehended the main accused within 24 hours linked to a suspected murder case reported from the Theog subdivision. The matter came to light on February 28 from Jarai village under Post Office Devgarh in Theog tehsil.
An FIR was registered at Police Station, Theog, under Section 103(1) (302 IPC) on the statement of Jagdish, a resident of Jarai village who works in agriculture and horticulture. As per the complainant, he had allowed a Nepali family to stay in two rooms of his orchard shed for work. The family included Suresh, his wife, their three daughters, two sons and his nephew Dhani Ram.
On the morning of February 28, Jagdish went to the shed and found both rooms locked. When he checked, one room was empty, while Dhani Ram was found lying unconscious on the floor in the second room. He was not breathing and was declared dead at the spot. Jagdish suspected that Suresh had killed him during the night and fled from the spot with his family.
After receiving the information, a forensic team along with experts from SFSL Junga examined the crime scene. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Theog, also visited the spot. Police collected physical and digital evidence and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case.
Police teams examined CCTV footage from nearby areas and launched a search operation to trace the accused. The description of the suspect was also shared through the media. Based on CCTV analysis, local inquiries and digital evidence, the police got information that the accused was hiding in Sharmathu village under Sharmala Panchayat.
On March 1, 2026, a police team carried out a raid in Sharmathu village and apprehended the accused, Suresh. During initial probe, police found that the accused allegedly killed Dhani Ram while under the influence of alcohol following an old dispute. An agricultural tool was reportedly used in the crime. Further probe into the case is ongoing.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shimla Abhishek said, “Shimla Police acted quickly and arrested the accused within 24 hours. A detailed investigation is underway and further action will be taken based on the evidence.”
