On the occasion of 77th Republic Day of the country, J&K’s LG Manoj Sinha on Monday claimed that a ‘Naya Savera’ (a new dawn) has broken out in Jammu and Kashmir and reiterated the government’s firm resolve to establish peace and make region prosperous. He emphasized that the region is witnessing a new era of peace, progress, and opportunity.
Addressing the main Republic Day function in Jammu, LG Sinha paid rich tributes to martyrs and victims of terrorism, natural calamities, and tragic incidents.Saluting the courage and bravery of security forces, LG Sinha said, ” Operation Sindoor sent a clear message to the world that terrorism will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”He praised the armed forces for eliminating Pakistani terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack and paid homage to its victims, as well as those who lost their lives in the unfortunate Nowgam blast.
Highlighting the development agenda, LG Sinha said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fully committed to transforming Jammu and Kashmir and contributing significantly to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047.’Speaking on tourism, LG Sinha said it continues to play a pivotal role in J&K’s economy. He noted that from January to November 2025, over 1 crore 61 lakh tourists visited the Union Territory, though the figure remains slightly lower than the previous year due to the impact of the Pahalgam terror attack and natural disasters.
Meanwhile, Republic Day was celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour across Kashmir on Monday amid stringent security arrangements, as the main function in the valley was held at Bakshi stadium in Srinagar. A three-tier security layer was thrown around the stadium as all entry points leading to the venue were heavily guarded by police and paramilitary personnel, officials said.
An additional security force was deployed in and around a one-kilometre radius of the stadium, with only persons invited for the function allowed to enter inside the premises. However, mobile phone and internet services remained functional even inside the venue of the function.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary presided over the function at the stadium, while his cabinet colleagues Sakina Ittoo and Javed Dar unfurled the national flag at official functions in Anantnag and Baramulla, respectively. The stadium, with an estimated capacity of 20,000, was almost full, mostly with government employees attending the event. The national flag was hoisted at all government offices, including the office of the Kashmir divisional commissioner. Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and several ruling National Conference MLAs from Srinagar attended the Republic Day function at Bakshi Stadium.
