A wasteland in the bustling Maligaon area of Guwahati has been transformed into the Sirisha Rail Udyan by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), according to an official statement.
Previously a foul-smelling dump in BG Colony, the area has been revitalised into an inviting space for leisure and recreation.
The park now spans nearly 5,500 square meters and offers modern amenities, including walking and running tracks suitable for all age groups.
"The NFR reclaimed this wasteland, converting it into a community park," the statement noted. The park now features seating arrangements, a lush lawn, and an open gym, addressing the area's previous issues with garbage dumping and water-logging.
Enhancements include walls painted with educational murals depicting Assam's natural and cultural history.
Solar LED lamps have been installed throughout the park, and a picturesque pond with two water fountains adds to the charm.
