Traffic on National Highway-44 will remain suspended over the next three days to allow repair and resurfacing work ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic, National Highway (NHW), Adil Hamid Ganai said on Thursday.

The SSP said the road stretch between Nachlana and Hingni, located between Ramsu and Banihal, is being repaired to ensure a smooth journey for pilgrims during the Amarnath yatra, which begins on July 3.

He said traffic movement on the 63-km stretch between the Chenani-Nashri (Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee) Tunnel and the Navyuga Tunnel in Banihal will remain suspended from 10 pm to 5 am on the nights of June 12-13, June 14-15 and June 16-17.

According to the SSP, vehicles heading towards Srinagar will not be allowed to move beyond Jakheni in Udhampur after 5 pm. Similarly, vehicles travelling towards Jammu will not be permitted beyond Qazigund after 9 pm on the specified dates.

However, he clarified that the restrictions will not affect vehicles travelling between Jammu or Udhampur and Batote, Doda or Kishtwar. Traffic on those routes will continue as usual.

Ganai advised commuters to plan their journeys during daytime hours to avoid inconvenience and help authorities carry out the repair work smoothly. He also said travellers can contact the Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Srinagar and Ramban for updates and assistance. Contact details have already been shared through traffic advisories issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters.

The annual Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. Pilgrims will be able to undertake the journey through both the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
