The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two people on Thursday for their involvement in the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly election IED blast case.
The arrested individuals, Dhanesh Ram Dhruw (also known as Guru Jee) and Ramswarup Markam, were linked to the banned CPI (Maoist) group and helped the attackers by providing support.
The IED blast occurred on November 17, 2023, in Badegobra village, Gariyaband district, during the state elections. The blast killed an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) head constable as a polling team, along with security officers, was returning after completing the voting.
NIA investigations found that Naxal leaders Ganesh Uikey, Manoj, and Satyam Gawade planned the attack. They wanted to disrupt the elections, which the Naxal group had called for a boycott. The blast was carried out by Naxal members from the Gobra Dalam group, with help from local supporters in Badegobra and Chhotegobra villages.
The case was first filed at Mainpur police station but was taken over by the NIA on February 22 last year. In December 2024, the NIA filed charges against 10 people, and the investigation is still ongoing.
