The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has firmly clarified that it did not conduct any raids related to the security of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama or any Khalistani terror financing case in McLeodganj, Himachal Pradesh, on Friday.
In a statement, the agency said that the searches carried out on Friday were solely linked to the 'US donkey route' human trafficking case, and details regarding this had already been shared in an earlier press note.
The NIA’s official statement said, “The search had no connection either with Dalai Lama or with any case related to Khalistani terrorists, and reports to the contrary in a section of the media are completely false.”
The NIA further clarified that the local police were duly informed and accompanied the agency during the search operation in McLeodganj, which was conducted alongside a similar search in Delhi.
As mentioned in the previous day’s press release, the operation led to the arrest of two more individuals in connection with the ongoing investigation into illegal human trafficking through the 'donkey route' to the US, the agency added.
Meanwhile, in Dharamshala, the atmosphere is festive as preparations are in full swing to celebrate the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the revered Tibetan spiritual leader.
As per the Gregorian calendar, the birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is officially celebrated on July 6. The occasion is being observed with heartfelt devotion and joyous spirit by Tibetan communities and followers throughout the region.
Ahead of his birthday, the Dalai Lama shared his gratitude for the warm celebrations being held in his honour, and gently reminded everyone to focus on nurturing compassion and inner peace.
In a post on X, the Dalai Lama wrote, "On the occasion of my 90th birthday, I understand that well-wishers and friends in many places, including Tibetan communities, are gathering for celebrations. I particularly appreciate the fact that many of you are using the occasion to engage in initiatives that highlight the importance of compassion, warm-heartedness, and altruism."
With his typical humility, the Dalai Lama referred to himself as "just a simple Buddhist monk" and mentioned that he typically does not take part in birthday celebrations. However, he said he felt moved to share a few thoughts on the occasion.
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone marking his birthday and appreciated those who are using the moment as an opportunity to reflect on and cultivate peace of mind and compassion.
"Thank you for using the opportunity of my birthday to cultivate peace of mind and compassion," he said.
