A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited Jeeda village in Bathinda district, Punjab, on Friday to investigate a blast that occurred at a house on September 10, 2025.

The explosion severely injured a father-son duo: 19-year-old law student Gurpreet Singh, who lost his hand, and his father, Jagtar Singh, who also sustained serious injuries.

It is learnt that NIA officials met the family and sought details about the purchase of a mobile phone and other items linked to the case. The family stated that they had given Gurpreet money to buy a phone after he received an advance from a local commission agent.

The team also gathered information about Gurpreet’s activities leading up to the blast.

Sources confirmed that the NIA is likely to file a chargesheet against Gurpreet Singh in court on February 24. The family has been informed that they may engage a defence counsel for the proceedings.

The incident came to light after a private hospital alerted police the following day due to the suspicious nature of the injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest Gurpreet may have been radicalised through online content and was experimenting with explosives.

Reports indicate he was a dedicated follower of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Masood Azhar and had created a fake social media account to follow Azhar and other extremists.

Gurpreet was booked under the Explosives Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Nehianwala police station. Local police stated they were unaware of the NIA team’s visit on Saturday.
