The National Investigation Agency or the NIA raids are underway in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Monday, said sources.
According to officials, ‘the raids are currently ongoing at nine different locations for terror funding case.’
The searches are being conducted in a case, which was already registered in 2022 by the central investigating agency.
Sources informed that “the teams consisting of NIA officials are being assisted by the officers of the Jammu and Kashmir police.”
Acting on specific information regarding certain individuals residing in Srinagar, the anti-terror agency launched an operation in the early morning to make sure the suspects were apprehended.
The suspects according to NIA are believed to be associated with “ The Resistance Front” which is an offshoot of the terror outfit Laskha-e-Toiba (LeT).
Both LeT and TRF organisations are banned, as they are constantly involved in luring Kashmiri youth to join the militant ranks and instigating violence against the security forces in the region.
The two outfits are also operating on social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Telegram to promote their cause and glorify violence to target unemployed youth in the region.
LeT is the largest terror group founded in the early 90’s and is actively engaged in reviving its network in South Kashmir, according to intelligence agencies.
Apart from direct recruitment, the outfit is operating various offshoots in Jammu and Kashmir.
Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Muhammad operatives have diminished in number due to counter-insurgency efforts by security forces.
However, these groups are reportedly merging to reinvigorate their presence in the valley.
