Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday inspected key drain and road construction projects in Patna aimed at reducing waterlogging and easing traffic congestion in several parts of the city.

The Chief Minister first visited the Kurji Drain, also known as the Rajiv Nagar Drain, being developed near Rajiv Nagar on Ashiana–Digha Road. He later inspected the Anandpuri Drain project.

During the inspection, Kumar said the drains are being paved and roads are being constructed over them as part of the project. Once completed, the initiatives are expected to significantly reduce waterlogging and improve traffic flow in the capital. The construction of two-lane roads over the drains will ensure smoother movement for commuters while also making the city look cleaner and more organised, he added.

The Chief Minister recalled that during the Pragati Yatra on February 21, 2025, he had reviewed development works in Patna district and announced several projects. At that time, he had also inspected the Kurji and Anandpuri drains and directed officials to repair the drains and build roads over them to address public grievances.

“During the Pragati Yatra, considering the problems faced by the people, I had directed that these drains be repaired and a road be constructed over them to facilitate movement. I am happy that work is underway,” Kumar said.

Officials said the Rajiv Nagar drain is a key component of Patna’s drainage system. Stretching about 4.26 kilometres, it runs from Digha Ashiana Road to the Kurji Drainage Pumping Station. The project involves paving the drain and constructing a road over it.

Similarly, the Anandpuri drain, another crucial drainage channel, is about 4 kilometres long. It runs from Baba Chowk to the Rajapur Pul Drainage Pumping Station near Atal Path and AN College. This drain is also being paved, with a road being built above it.

Several senior officials accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection, including Chief Minister’s Secretary Kumar Ravi, Special Officer Gopal Singh, Patna Division Commissioner Animesh Parasar, Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, District Magistrate Dr. Tyagarajan SM, and Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma.
