Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched a sharp attack on RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav on Friday, accusing him of caring only for his family rather than the people of Bihar.
Speaking at the launch of the state's Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana (Chief Minister's Women Employment Scheme), Kumar took a direct dig at the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief without naming him. He referred to the time Lalu Yadav stepped down and immediately made his wife, Rabri Devi, the Chief Minister.
"I want to tell women that a lot of work is being done and the Prime Minister is working for you. The previous government was not for women," Kumar said. "Do you know, when he was removed, he made his wife the Chief Minister. He was concerned about his family. We don’t look after our families. We work for the whole of Bihar."
The Chief Minister asserted that the state only saw genuine development after the JD(U)-BJP-led NDA government assumed power. He criticised the previous administration for its lack of proper work, claiming that since the coalition government took office on 24 November 2005, significant efforts have been made to improve law and order, education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment across the state.
"You all are aware that the previous government did not do much work, and hence the situation of Bihar was not good. But since the Janata Dal (United), Bharatiya Janata Party, and National Democratic Alliance government came to power, Bihar has been working towards development and improving law and order... From the beginning, we have given special attention to women’s empowerment," said Kumar.
The political comments came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana via video conferencing.
