CPI(ML) Liberation leader Dipankar Bhattacharya on Saturday questioned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s ability to continue in office, citing his recent public behaviour and statements as evidence that he is no longer fit to discharge his duties.
Bhattacharya criticised both the JD(U) and its ally, the BJP, for allegedly keeping the people of Bihar in the dark about Kumar’s condition, despite having previously raised similar concerns about Odisha’s former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
In a social media post, Bhattacharya referred to a viral video from a recent public function ahead of Bihar Diwas 2025, where Nitish Kumar appeared disoriented even as the national anthem was being played. He claimed that the chief minister seemed “oblivious and clueless” about his surroundings, reinforcing concerns that he is unfit to govern the state.
Bhattacharya further alleged that although the NDA government still has the necessary numbers to remain in power, the chief minister is no longer in control.
He accused the ruling alliance of running the state through an “opaque bureaucratic arrangement” while keeping the people unaware of the true situation. He insisted that the people of Bihar at least deserve clarity regarding the chief minister’s health and governance capacity.

Drawing a comparison with Odisha, Bhattacharya pointed out that the BJP had made a “huge issue” out of Naveen Patnaik’s health, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi even suggesting in a campaign speech that there was a political conspiracy behind Patnaik’s uncertain condition.
However, in Bihar, he claimed, the BJP has chosen to remain silent, while its senior leaders and those from JD(U) blame the opposition for raising questions about Nitish Kumar’s health.
The CPI(ML) Liberation leader also took aim at Nitish Kumar’s governance record, recalling that he once championed the slogan of “good governance” and took credit for improving Bihar’s law and order situation.
Now, however, Bhattacharya alleged that the state is experiencing a breakdown in governance, with crime, corruption, and communalism—issues that Kumar had once promised to curb—worsening unchecked. He maintained that the current situation is unfair both to the chief minister and the people of Bihar, calling for transparency regarding Kumar’s ability to lead.
