Actress Nitu Chandra has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court against singer Yo Yo Honey Singh’s latest song ‘Maniac,’ alleging it contains vulgar content.
The PIL, expected to be heard later this month, names Honey Singh along with lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi, who collaborated on the song.
Nitu Chandra, who is originally from Patna and has acted in several Bollywood films, has also produced critically acclaimed Bhojpuri and Maithili movies. In her petition, she has requested the court to direct the respondents to amend the lyrics of the song.
She claims the song promotes excessive sexualisation and depicts women as mere objects. She has also argued that it misuses the Bhojpuri language to normalize vulgarity and undermines women's empowerment.
