Local residents have been submitting edited documents to the Municipal Corporation (MC) to get no-dues certificates (NDC) and mislead authorities for personal benefit.

The issue surfaced when MC officials checked the documents and found many of them had been tampered with. A complaint was then filed at the Arya Nagar police station, which has filed a case against four persons — Praveen, Pramod Kumar, Ramphal, and Budhram.

Sources said several applications were recently uploaded on the portal, where citizens had to submit ID proofs and documents to obtain NDC. During scrutiny, officials noticed that some documents looked edited, which led to a detailed verification. In particular, the e-certificate and GRN numbers on sale deeds had been altered.

Officials examined documents from serial numbers 1 to 67 and found that many certificates carried the same e-certificate and GRN, even though the dates were different. The documents had been digitally changed before submission, prompting the authorities to seek legal action.

A case of forgery, fraudulent use of documents, and providing false information to public authorities has been registered on the complaint of the Deputy Municipal Commissioner.

Sources said police will investigate how the documents were edited and whether more people are involved.

MC Commissioner Anand Kumar Sharma said tampering with government records is a serious crime. He appealed to residents to submit only genuine and original documents for property tax work. He warned that strict action will be taken if anyone uses fake or altered documents.
