Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday implored his party members to make certain that every eligible voter is included during the state's current Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Interacting with the public, the Chief Minister realised that awareness regarding the SIR process was insufficient among the general population.
"In numerous locations, people said that even polling officials, such as Booth Level Officers (BLOs), did not fully grasp the process," said Stalin, speaking in his capacity as the DMK party president.
During a virtual meeting with the ruling party’s district secretaries, held from the DMK headquarters in Anna Arivalayam, Stalin instructed party functionaries and those overseeing constituencies to maintain strict vigilance over all SIR-related activities.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has previously questioned the timing of the SIR, particularly its implementation during the ongoing Northeast Monsoon season in the state. The party has voiced opposition, claiming that this extensive exercise could potentially lead to the deletion of voters from minority communities.
Chairing the video conference dedicated to the month-long revision drive, he emphasised, "Not a single eligible voter's name must be missed out in the SIR campaign. Equally, ensure that the names of ineligible voters are not included in the list."
As per a source within the party, the president instructed the DMK's booth-level agents to remain watchful. He also enquired that whether or not the required forms were being distributed to the public along with a clear explanation of the SIR process.
