The North East Students Organisation (NESO) has urgently called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and end the ongoing violence in Manipur. The NESO, an umbrella group representing student bodies across the North East region, expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict.
In a statement on Thursday, NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa emphasised that the ongoing unrest undermines not just the stability of Manipur but poses a significant threat to the broader peace and security of the entire North East.
"The failure to address this issue decisively has exacerbated the crisis," Jyrwa said.
The NESO has repeatedly urged the Indian government and the Prime Minister to take firm action. Jyrwa highlighted that the Prime Minister’s continued absence from Manipur since the violence began has worsened the situation.
"The lack of strong, timely leadership has allowed the conflict to fester, intensifying the violence and suffering," he added.
As a student organisation, NESO advocates for a peaceful resolution through constructive dialogue, stressing the importance of respecting the rights, aspirations, and dignity of every individual involved.
Jyrwa stated that violence is never a solution and called on all communities and stakeholders to engage in dialogue and work towards restoring peace.
NESO expressed its willingness to support any constructive efforts aimed at resolving the crisis and ensuring a stable, secure future for Manipur.
