Sikkim and other North-Eastern states have joined hands to prepare a comprehensive roadmap aimed at boosting tourism, improving connectivity, and promoting the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday virtually attended the third meeting of the high-level task force on tourism in the North-Eastern Region. The meeting was convened to review the progress of collaborative initiatives and discuss strategies for the sustainable development of tourism across the region.
Tamang said the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has inducted four states- Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Meghalaya, as members of the high-level committee. The committee, he added, is working collectively to identify opportunities and overcome challenges facing the region’s tourism sector.
“Attended the third meeting of the high-level task force on Tourism in the North Eastern Region virtually today from Samman Bhawan,” Tamang wrote in a social media post.

A high-powered committee, formed under the direction of Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in the presence of Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, has been tasked with framing a comprehensive strategy to promote tourism in the region.
During the detailed deliberations, members discussed multiple aspects of tourism development, including infrastructure enhancement, sustainable tourism practices, capacity building, and better connectivity across the North-East. Emphasis was also placed on leveraging the region’s unique cultural diversity and natural beauty to attract domestic and international visitors.
Tamang said the task force’s report, outlining actionable recommendations and a strategic roadmap for holistic tourism growth in the North-East, will soon be finalised and submitted.
The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to regional economic growth by creating new livelihood opportunities, strengthening inter-state collaboration, and positioning the North-East as one of India’s premier tourism destinations.
