Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma reviewed ongoing counter-insurgency and security measures during a joint meeting held virtually from Udhampur district on Thursday. The meeting took place days after security forces eliminated three terrorists in separate operations across Kishtwar and Udhampur districts, following relentless searches lasting over two weeks.
Northern Command headquarters stated in a post on X, “The Army Commander chaired the weekly joint control centres' meeting in virtual mode on Thursday.” The session was attended by senior military leadership, Jammu and Kashmir Police officials, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) representatives, and other stakeholders from both divisions of the Union Territory.
“Discussions focused on intelligence sharing, boosting joint readiness, refining inter-agency synergy and further strengthening the counter-terrorism framework,” the post added. The review assumes added significance amid multiple joint operations underway across the Union Territory and updated threat inputs.
Earlier, on February 6, security forces neutralised a dreaded Jaish-e-Mohammad commander in Kishtwar during Operation Trashi-I, which lasted nearly 20 hours. In a subsequent encounter, two more terrorists were killed in Udhampur. Troops faced severe challenges due to the dense forests, thick foliage, natural hideouts and caves in the rugged terrain.
While the Kashmir Valley has remained largely peaceful throughout 2024 and 2025, sporadic incidents of violence continue in difficult and remote areas, posing persistent challenges to security forces.
