The Jammu division of Northern Railways has added another feather to its cap by transporting 60 tonnes of vermicompost fertiliser in the first-ever freight train to south Kashmir’s Anantnag from Haryana’s Ambala, an official said on Saturday.
The shipment, facilitated by the Business Development Unit (BDU) of the division, was transported via a parcel traffic train, highlighting the railways’ significant push to support small-scale traders, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager UchitSinghal said in a statement.
He added that the consignment contained 1,200 bags of vermicompost, weighing around 60 tonnes. It was dispatched by Sikri Farms in Ambala and successfully delivered to Kashmir.
“This successful operation not only strengthens commercial ties but also underscores the pivotal role the railways play in facilitating the availability of agricultural products within Kashmir. It is being hailed as a significant milestone on the path toward sustainable business growth in the future,” Singhal said.
Meanwhile, Sikri Farms expressed satisfaction over the timely delivery of the consignment and indicated plans to continue and expand its use of rail transport service for future shipments.
