What may appear to many as sudden success, Vijay's supporters insist is the result of years of perseverance. With his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam making a strong debut—leading in 100 of 234 Assembly seats and winning nine already—the political landscape in Tamil Nadu has been significantly shaken, breaking its traditional two-front dominance.
Film critic Latha Srinivasan said Vijay’s journey in cinema itself reflected persistence, recalling how he faced early criticism over appearance and struggled to establish himself before rising to stardom through films like Thuppakki and Kaththi. Actor Jeeva Ravi added that Vijay continuously learned from failures and improved, rather than abandoning collaborators.
Since entering politics, Vijay has consistently signed off speeches with the message, “I have come believing in you,” though critics once questioned his early ambition to project himself as a chief ministerial figure. Supporters argue his evolution was gradual—from actor to socially conscious public figure, and then to political leader.

TVK spokesperson C T Nirmal Kumar said Vijay’s long-standing social work through Vijay Makkal Iyakkam laid the groundwork for his political entry, citing blood donation drives, relief work and educational initiatives.
Party leader Felix Gerald pointed out that the organisation’s 2021 local body election performance—where a large majority of candidates won—signalled early political strength even before the formal launch of TVK in 2024.
Supporters say Vijay’s mass appeal was evident as rallies drew large crowds and his fan base transitioned smoothly into political backing. One candidate said his influence alone drives voter support across regions.
However, critics, including Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, have questioned whether fan following can translate into sustained electoral organisation.
Despite setbacks, including a 2025 stampede at a TVK rally in Karur that led to the killing of 41 people, Vijay’s supporters say he has remained steady and focused, urging followers to stay committed.
Party leaders maintain that his political strategy is structured and long-term, with expectations that a new generation of leaders will emerge under his guidance in the coming years, marking a sustained entry into Tamil Nadu politics.
