Eid-ul-Azha celebrations turned tragic in Haryana’s Nuh district on Thursday evening after walls collapsed in two separate villages during a severe thunderstorm, killing two children and injuring four others, police officials said on Friday.
According to the police, the first incident took place in Tapkan village, where a nearly 30-foot wall located on the southern side of the Government Senior Secondary School collapsed amid strong winds and heavy rain triggered by the storm.
Officials said several children from the village had gathered near the wall while playing in the area. As the weather suddenly worsened, the children reportedly leaned against the wall in an attempt to take shelter from the strong winds and dust storm. However, within moments, the wall gave way and collapsed on them, trapping the children beneath the debris.
Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing screams and immediately began rescue efforts. Villagers, along with police and emergency teams, removed the debris and pulled the children out before they were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police said 15-year-old Mohammad Ayan succumbed to his injuries in the incident. Four other children — identified as Masik (13), Kamil (15), Sufian (11) and Wasim (13) — sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
In another tragic incident reported from Chandeni village during the same thunderstorm, a nine-year-old boy lost his life after a wall collapsed on him. The deceased child was identified as Anshed Khan, a Class IV student studying at a private school in the area. According to officials, the wall suddenly collapsed due to the intensity of the storm, leaving the child critically injured. He was rushed for medical assistance but could not be saved.
Police and district administration officials reached both accident sites soon after receiving information and launched rescue and investigation operations. Authorities said the exact circumstances leading to the wall collapses are being examined.
Local villagers also played a major role in the rescue efforts and assisted officials in removing debris and helping the injured children. The incidents cast a shadow over Eid-ul-Azha celebrations in the district, with grief and shock spreading across the affected villages. Residents said the sudden thunderstorm caused panic in several parts of the area, damaging structures and uprooting weak constructions.
Public representatives, social activists and local leaders expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of the children and extended condolences to the bereaved families. “We handed over the bodies to the family members after conducting post-mortem examinations. Further investigation into both incidents is underway,” a senior police officer said.
