In a deeply distressing incident, a 23-year-old nurse in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district died by suicide on Sunday night, just days after her father was brutally murdered. The deceased has been identified as Baby Kani, a nursing professional at the Nellai Government Hospital.
According to reports, Kani had been struggling to cope with the loss of her father, Arumugam, a farmer from Vadakku Nellaiyappapuram village. He was hacked to death by unidentified assailants while working in a field on March 17. The incident had left the family in shock.
Family members said Kani was severely affected by the tragedy and remained inconsolable despite their efforts to comfort her. On Sunday, she took the extreme step. She was rushed to the Nellai Government Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Before her death, Kani left behind a handwritten note expressing her inability to overcome the memories she shared with her father. In the note, she also named two individuals whom she alleged were responsible for his murder and urged the police to take swift action. In a poignant message written on her palm, she appealed to be buried alongside her father.
Officials from the Nellai District Police confirmed that a letter had been recovered and that a case has been registered. “She was unable to cope with the loss of her father,” a police official stated, adding that further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, the Moondradaippu police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of Arumugam. The accused are currently being interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation.
Both bodies have been sent to the Nellai Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
