Odisha is expected to witness heavy rainfall for another two days as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal continues to intensify. The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast indicating that the state will experience persistent downpours until July 6.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, nine districts have been placed under an orange warning, whilst fifteen districts are under a yellow alert. The orange warning covers areas including Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Jharsuguda, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Meanwhile, the yellow alerts have been sounded for districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Boudh. In response to the prevailing weather conditions and to ensure the safety of students, several districts have announced the temporary closure of all educational institutions.
Whilst the heavy rain has provided a welcome relief from the recent intense heatwave, it has also caused widespread waterlogging in multiple parts of the state. The severe downpours have severely affected vehicular movement in various areas, leading to significant disruptions to daily life.
Officials are continuing to monitor the evolving weather situation closely as the low-pressure system strengthens. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, and fishermen have been strictly urged to avoid venturing into the sea until July 6.
