Odisha to disburse ₹5000 'Subhadra' funds to 40 lakh women

Eligible women between the ages of 21 and 60 will receive ₹10,000 per year, split into two instalments of ₹5,000 each.

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Sunday informed that the government will distribute the first instalment of ₹5,000 to more than 40 lakh women under its flagship Subhadra Yojana on October 9.

This would mark the second phase of payments under the BJP government’s scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17.

The Subhadra Yojana aims to provide financial assistance to women across Odisha, with ₹50,000 set to be disbursed to each beneficiary over a period of five years, between 2024-2029.

Eligible women between the ages of 21 and 60 will receive ₹10,000 per year, split into two instalments of ₹5,000 each.

These instalments will be distributed on Rakhi Purnima and International Women’s Day (March 8).

On its launch date, the first instalment was directly credited to the bank accounts of 25.11 lakh women.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is expected to oversee the next phase of the scheme’s rollout in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district, during Durga Puja celebrations on October 9.

The decision to host the event in Mayurbhanj is symbolic, as the district has been a beacon of women’s empowerment in Odisha, Parida noted.

“Our President hails from this district, and during Rath Yatra, the chariot of Devi Subhadra is pulled by women devotees in Baripada,” he said.

She further mentioned that approximately 96 lakh women have registered for the scheme thus far, and those who apply before October 7 will also be eligible to receive funds during this phase.

The Subhadra Yojana was a key promise in the BJP’s election manifesto, which helped the party secure power in June 2024.

By the scheme’s completion, over 1 crore women across Odisha are expected to benefit from this financial aid.
