Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, speaking at the vibrant five-day 'Paraba' festival in Koraput, has pledged a significant ₹160 crore investment to transform the tribal-heartland district into a global tourism destination. Praising the region’s "unparalleled natural beauty," the CM pointed to landmarks like Deomali — the state’s highest peak — and the Duduma waterfall as key assets that could put Koraput on the international map.

The funding is intended to upgrade infrastructure around these sites, alongside other historical locations like the Gupteswar shrine and the district's ancient Jain temples.

Beyond its scenic landscapes, Majhi highlighted the unique identity of Koraput, calling out local staples like 'kala jeera' rice, black turmeric, millets, and its increasingly popular coffee as drivers of the local economy. During his visit on Sunday, the Chief Minister did more than just announce tourism funds; he also moved forward on broader infrastructure by inaugurating 16 projects worth ₹23 crore and laying the foundation for another 70 projects valued at ₹521 crore. He emphasised that these initiatives are part of a larger commitment to the state’s tribal and Dalit communities, noting that the current state budget has earmarked a massive ₹68,000 crore specifically for their welfare.

The 'Paraba' festival has served as a colorful backdrop for these announcements, filling the air with traditional tribal music and dance, thereby showcasing the region's crafts and cuisine.

Chief Minister of Odisha also touched upon the district’s industrial significance. He noted that the bauxite found in Koraput is among the highest quality in the world. By the end of his address, it was understood that the state intends to balance resource management with a deep respect for tribal heritage, ensuring that the natural and cultural wealth of Koraput translates into long-term development for its residents.
