The Rajasthan Police intercepted an oil tanker bearing the Bharat Petroleum logo near the Abohar-Sadulshehar barrier early on Friday morning and seized liquor and beer worth Rs 40 lakh, which was being smuggled to Gujarat from Punjab. The vehicle went unchecked at the interstate posts of the Punjab Police and taxation department.
Acting on a tip-off that a large consignment of illicit liquor was being transported from Abohar through Rajasthan to Gujarat, the team intensified surveillance on the Punjab-Rajasthan border and intercepted the tanker near Amargarh village. Instead of diesel, the tanker lorry was found to be carrying liquor.
The tanker driver, Suresh Meghwal (26) of Ramsariya village in Barmer, has been arrested and the vehicle impounded.
