Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that from the first day, his main goal in Jammu and Kashmir has been to improve people’s lives, end discrimination and injustice, and break the terror ecosystem.
Speaking at the Constitution Day event in Jammu, Sinha said the old practice of rewarding separatists and harassing patriots has been completely stopped. At the ceremony, he led the reading of the ‘Preamble to the Constitution’ and paid tribute to the founding fathers who shaped it.
He said after 67 years, the Constitution was fully applied to J&K in 2019, when Article 370 was removed and the state was split into two Union Territories, ending years of discrimination and unfair treatment.
Sinha said J&K is now moving forward with the ideals of equality, and social and economic justice laid down in the Constitution by Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
He said his mission has always been to improve citizens’ lives, remove injustice and discrimination, end the terror network, and ensure that central schemes reach the poorest people.
To those asking what has changed in the past five years, Sinha said the biggest change is that rewarding separatists and punishing patriots has finally ended.
He said that by implementing the full Constitution in J&K, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured dignity, honour and respect for all citizens.
The UT-level event marking 75 years of the Constitution’s adoption was organised by the Culture Department along with the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
“For 76 years, the Constitution has been a beacon of equity, liberty, and social justice and a guiding light for the citizens of this great country,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He urged policymakers and officers to uphold the Constitution’s values and remain committed to protecting the rights of people.
“Our Constitution is venerable, which has paved the way for India's progress. We have to keep national unity and integrity intact. We must create the feeling of self-confidence and self-respect in society, and every means and resource has to be used to make India powerful and self-reliant,” Sinha said.
Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, and senior civil and police officers attended the function.
