Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has arrived in Hubballi, Karnataka, to witness the final day of the Ranji Trophy final, marking a historic moment for Jammu and Kashmir cricket. He is accompanied by Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA and chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, along with other dignitaries.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s office wrote that the Chief Minister is present in Hubballi to witness the concluding day of the summit clash. The post from the Chief Minister’s office described the occasion as momentous for the UT’s cricket, with the team standing just moments away from scripting a historic victory against Karnataka.
Earlier, the Chief Minister said that the time has come for some of the UT players to represent the country in the long format. "They are hungry and remain ready to prove their mettle at the international level,” he said, expressing his wish to see some of the players selected in the Indian squad for upcoming international fixtures.
Besides, he praised the team’s collective effort before the start of the all-important final game, saying, “The J&K team looked hungry from the very beginning of the final. It seems they are there to win the title.”
In a few hours’ time, Jammu and Kashmir are poised to etch their name among Ranji Trophy-winning sides after nearly 67 years of waiting.
Political circles in the UT, fans and the local community have praised the team’s efforts after last year’s setback when they were eliminated by the first-innings lead rule.
Winning the prestigious Ranji title will surely light up cricket in Kashmir, where it is the most followed sport, just like the rest of the country.
