Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday urged an immediate end to what he described as the “illegal war” imposed on Iran by the United States and Israel, calling for urgent peace negotiations.

Speaking briefly to the media after offering Eid prayers at the Hazratbal shrine, he said, "Today, I only prayed for an end to this illegal war that has been imposed by the United States and Israel on us.”

He highlighted that the Muslim world was enduring an uncertain period, with every Muslim nation affected by the conflict.

Abdullah noted that the war in West Asia had repercussions for India as well. “Our resources are getting affected by the ongoing uncertainty in the region,” he said.

“It affects Muslims in India sentimentally and every Indian in terms of energy needs. People are facing difficulties in getting cooking gas and diesel needed for the functioning of their homes,” he added.

On the continued closure of Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta, Srinagar, for congregational Eid prayers for the seventh consecutive year, the Chief Minister termed the decision unfortunate.

He criticised the Lieutenant Governor’s administration for claiming normalcy while shutting down the historic mosque.

Abdullah remarked, "There is a mismatch between the words and the deeds of those in charge of security.

On one hand, they claim that everything is normal, and on the other, they close the historic mosque. What kind of normalcy is this? I hope such decisions will be changed in the future."
