Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday visited the flood-affected areas of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district to access the situation.
Floods had affected several areas of south and central Kashmir after the Jhelum and several other tributaries breached the danger mark.
He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, Cabinet Ministers Javed Rana and Sakina Itoo, and several legislators, including Altaf Kaloo, Majeed Larmi, Dr Bashir Veeri, Reyaz Khan and Zafar Khattana.
He was also joined by officials from the district administration, including Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Syed Farkahudin.
During his visit, the CM interacted with families which were affected by the floods and shifted to safer locations due to the continuous flooding threats.
He also reviewed the situation of the flooded areas, damaged roads, and public infrastructure.
He assured all the necessary steps would be taken to provide relief and assistance to those affected. The Chief Minister visited Mehdi Kadal, Deva Colony, Ashagipora Bridge and other areas of the district to take stock of the situation.
Omar directed the district administration to speed up the restoration works on a priority basis and ensure that essential supplies reach the affected areas without delay.
Meanwhile, Sources said that CM Omar Abdullah would chair a meeting with administrative officials of the district at Dak Banglow, Anantnag, to review the situation and might give directions for officials.
