The J&K Government on Wednesday clarified that entry to Dachigam National Park remains fully open for visitors and no restrictions have been imposed on public access today. CM Omar Abdullah has chosen a hut inside the park as venue for crucial meeting of legislators to discuss the statehood strategy and other issues of governance.
In an official statement, the Government spokesperson said the clarification was being issued in response to certain claims circulating regarding alleged restrictions on entry to Dachigam National Park on June 3, 2026.“It is clarified that entry for all visitors to Dachigam National Park remains completely open as per the usual procedure. No restrictions have been imposed by the Government regarding entry to the park for today, June 3,” the spokesperson said.
The statement further advised the public not to pay attention to unverified reports and to follow the standard protocols applicable for visits to the National Park.“The public is advised to follow standard procedures for their visit and not to pay heed to unverified news,” the spokesperson added.Pertinently, in a significant political development, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday chaired a closed-door meeting of National Conference legislators, Members of Parliament and supporting legislators at Draphama Hut inside Dachigam National Park on the outskirts of Srinagar.
The meeting, attended by around 48 legislators and MPs, is being seen as a major political brainstorming session aimed at shaping the ruling party’s future course of action on key political and governance issues.Sources said the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir figured prominently during the deliberations. Before the meeting commenced, several National Conference legislators indicated that the leadership would discuss a coordinated strategy to intensify efforts for the restoration of statehood, a commitment that remains central to the party’s political agenda.
Apart from statehood, discussions are also understood to have focused on governance, public outreach, developmental priorities and strengthening coordination among legislators. The leadership is believed to have sought feedback from elected representatives regarding issues being faced by people in their respective constituencies.
The meeting comes at a time when political activity in Jammu and Kashmir is gathering momentum, with various parties seeking clarity on constitutional and administrative issues concerning the Union Territory.
Holding the meeting at the secluded Dachigam venue provided the party leadership an opportunity to engage in extensive discussions away from the routine political environment. Security arrangements were tightened around the area during the deliberations.Political observers believe the outcome of the meeting could influence the National Conference’s future political strategy, particularly on the issue of statehood restoration and its engagement with the Centre in the coming months.
