Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurates Asia’s longest ski drag lift at Kongdori, Gulmarg, on Saturday.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday inaugurated Asia’s longest ski drag lift at Kongdoori, a famous ski resort in Gulmarg.

In a post on X, the CM’s office wrote: “This landmark addition will significantly enhance skiing infrastructure and further strengthen Gulmarg’s standing on the international winter sports map.”

Later, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the rotating conference hall at Apharwat in Gulmarg. The project has been jointly developed by the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation and the Department of Tourism.

The 726-metre-long ski drag lift is located at Kongdoori in Gulmarg. The project is expected to boost winter tourism, winter sports, and adventure tourism in the region.

Omar also inaugurated a water conservation initiative at Kongdoori and the world’s highest revolving restaurant and multipurpose hall at Apharwat on the same day.

The new drag lift will especially be the centre of attention as the Kashmir valley remains a top destination for adventure sports enthusiasts, besides hosting all-India-level winter games every year.

The lift is an extension of the famous Gulmarg Gondola, widely considered one of Asia’s longest and highest cable car rides and the second longest and highest in the world.

It is pertinent to mention that Kashmir’s tourism sector has faced unprecedented losses after terrorists gunned down 26 civilians, mostly tourists, in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025.

The UT administration, along with stakeholders, has pinned hopes on the winter season for the revival of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
