Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, while presenting his second Budget in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, announced that the government will create 548 medical seats to enhance educational capacity.
He also announced free LPG cylinders for poor families in the region and added that AIIMS Kashmir will be made operational in June this year.
In a detailed breakdown, he announced that the Union Territory will this year add 548 medical seats to enhance educational capacity. The allotted seats include PG seats, 34 PG seats in Ayurveda, 340 new MBBS seats, along with 46 Diplomate of National Board (DNB) seats.
He added that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kashmir will be made operational in June this year, providing major relief to the local population, many of whom are forced to travel to Delhi for medical treatment.
Omar further said that the government will continue extending its benefits to the poor sections of society, as promised in the manifesto during the 2024 Assembly elections.
He said that the government will provide six free LPG cylinders per year to all Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the scheme will cover the poorest of the poor in the Union Territory, ensuring that each AAY family gets at least six LPG cylinders annually.
