Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said the 2014 alliance between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was still in effect.
In an indirect swipe, he called the PDP a deceptive party that continued to deceive people with fake and misleading claims aimed at undermining the National Conference government.
During a public event at Budgam, Abdullah also discussed the implementation of the much-touted Delhi-style scheme to provide 200 units of free electricity to poor and needy consumers across the Union Territory (UT).
He said power consumption should be counted only where meters are installed and not where no meters are installed. “Providing 200 units of free electricity is impossible in non-metered areas,” he said.
He added, “We have promised 200 free units, and God willing, we will fulfil that commitment. To benefit from this, do not fall for the PDP’s political tactics.”
He said under his government, assistance was available for the most financially vulnerable people.
He accused the PDP of misleading people, overlooking past mistakes, and in some cases, arresting people while forging a deceitful alliance with the BJP. In contrast, the National Conference administration prioritised public welfare, he added.
Urging voters to focus on development, employment opportunities for the youth, and electricity charges, Omar said the electorate’s choice would determine the governance for the next four years.
Omar's speech was aimed at PDP’s 2014 alliance with the BJP, which, according to him, is responsible for the mess in Jammu and Kashmir.
